A few days ago, I received a message from Maxis :-
Believe me, it's feels weird, receiving a message on my iphone saying "Be one of the first to own an iphone ....."
Minchee did email me their different rates and I think it's pretty expensive. Still, many would purchase it simply because it's the "in thing".

i read from fer's blog. i thought it's cheaper than the price u bought. anyway, i just got 1 from NZ. If i knew it's coming out in Msia, may buy from Msia instead. Aiks!
Well, all things considered (6 months or 24 months commitment), upfront payment, getting a new number (I think), etc, etc, etc ... it looks about the same, I guess. It depends on which rate you want. They have 4 different packages.
It is way to expensive what Maxis is offering....the cost of ownership would be much higher compare to buying it from US...
Yes, to own the phone via Maxis is expensive but at least it's legal. If you get the phone from the States, you'd have to jailbreak it and from what I heard, you can't really use some of the phone's features (well, that is, if the phone happen to be faulty in the first place). There is no guarantee.
You are right....illegal...emmm not sure whether is any legal binding here in Malaysia with regards to iPhone usage. Lots of my colleagues are using it....they bought it from US. But please be aware that there is also some imitation iPhone in the market...made in Hong Kong and China...looks exactly the same......!!!
Yeah, I know of friends who bought it from the US and jailbroke theirs (proudly telling me about it)
And yes, I heard about the imitations too. I bought mine from HK and it's the REAL iphone cause it's bought online from the Apple website.
Personally, I think that one shouldn't buy it to keep up with their friends because iphones are not for everyone. It took me a while to get used to it. And no, I didn't buy it to keep up with my friends. In fact, I didn't know that this iphone existed until someone showed me his ipod touch and I liked the sleek feel of it and asked if there was a phone version of it.
