Short Trip to Kuantan, Pahang

On March 7th, Eunice called me to ask if I wanted to go to Sg Lembing. "What's in Sg Lembing", I asked. According to her, there was this hill with a nice view at the summit.
.
I googled Sg Lembing and saw some pictures - which actually didn't really impress me at all. I guess the pictures were kinda dark and I was half expecting pictures of bright vibrant hills and valleys.
.
It was only later I found out what was so unique about that scene. They call it the "Sea of Clouds".
.
Plans were made and leaves were applied. It was supposed to be an all-girls team but one girl couldn't make it because she was worried about not being able to finish her work. Instead, MCTC came.
.

We left at 6.20am. Arrived at McD near Genting Highland at about 8.15am and had breakfast there.

.
We continued our journey until we arrived at Kuantan at 11.30am. From there, we had to refer to the map which a friend (HY) of Minchee kindly put together for us. We also refered to the Kuantan map which I bought only the night before. But the map which Minchee's friend put together was better because it was based on google's map and he even had different coloured lines for the different places we planned to go.
.
We went to HY's place to get the keys to the house which we planned to stay at for the night. We were too early and had to go elsewhere first.
.

We went to Teluk Cempedak, a popular beach area. Low tide at this time of the day and no one was there swimming - mainly because it was far too hot!!!

Had lunch at one of the shops there. Minchee remembered this place from the last church camp in Kuantan. This place is famous for Laksa (mee curry).
.
We wanted to go to the Cultural Village but couldn't find it. The map says "there" but when we got there, there was something else.
.
Then we went to another beach area where they had lotus leaf and waterlilies, and a park where shady trees were in abundance.
.
After that, we went for a River cruise. The cost was RM15 perperson and minimum no. of persons is 5. It was a good thing there were two foreigners (from Scotland) who were keened on this cruise.
.

It was supposed to be a 1 hour 15 minute boad ride but it turned out to be about 1 hour 30 minutes. We think it was because of the foreigners.
.
We went under two bridges which were situated at two opposite ends of the cruise. This make me think of the River Cruise in San Francisco. We had to go under the Golden Gate and Bay Bridges.

We saw interesting stuff such as crocodiles, kingfishers, white breasted eagles, an otter and some sort of stork. Other than that, the usual stuff would be the fishing boats and shacks lining the coastal area.
.

It was a bright and beautiful day. There were great looking cottony white patches of clouds against the very blue backdrop of the sky.

We even got to see the mangroove at one end of the cruise. We got down and walked along the raised wooden planks on. It was not properly maintained and we could not go a lot further. Our guide explained that the soft crabs were the culprits for destroying certain walkways.
.
After the cruise - which was really value for money, we went back to HY's place to get the keys to the house.
.
We showered and refreshed ourselves before heading out to Sg Lembing. We wanted to know where it was so that it would be an easier drive the next morning. It took us slightly more than an hour to get there because there was a massive jam in Kuantan town itself.
.
We got to Sg Lembing close to 8pm and only 1-2 shops were opened. Gosh! The whole place looked like a ghost town.
.
After getting a rough direction as to where the hill was, we left.
.
We were hungry by the time we were in Kuantan town. From there, we went for our dinner - Ikan Bakar!!! We ordered sotong, ikan bakar, mixed veg, lala, rice and some tomyam. It only cost us RM56. Wow! Food is cheap there.
.
When we got back, it was about 10pm. It was time to get ready to go to bed. ....

to be continued........
